The Main Challenges and Our Solutions
The use of irony for this sensitive topic:
The topic was given to us as part of an assignment, and we knew it was a sensitive topic that needed to be handled carefully. However, as a design decision, we chose to use an ironic and exaggerated tone for the text both due to the short length of the game and our limited resources. We were unsure if this would communicate our message clearly, but after we did playtests with actual players and asked them for feedback, we learned that we were able to successfully accomplish that.
Believability of the world, the characters, and the conflict:
Developing the world and the characters was a challenge that affected the believability of them. We wanted them to feel real, and surprisingly, found that the exaggerated tone helped in communicating them quicker and easier, though it came with the risk of possible misunderstandings. However, based on the feedback we received from the players, we realized that we were successful in telling an emotional and believable story.
